A labor of...FOOD!

We have another project around here! I know...go figure! We had this ugly area in our front yard that had three shrubs, a 1/4 dead pine tree, various weeds and TONS of poison ivy in it. We've been saying for the past year or two that we want to take it all down and clean it up. No time like the present! The deal was Shawn was going to trim the pine tree to the point that the power line was. The power line runs from the pole to our house and was going straight smack-dab in the middle of this tree. See the problem?!! Shawn fires up the chain saw and proceeds to start taking it down. He decides he needs Barry's lift for this...we get it... Shawn then decides heck, I can do this. At this point folks, fire came out of my ears and eyes. I could not believe what I was hearing. This is what I said, "Sure, go ahead and kill yourself in front of your kids"! Then I walked away. I could not watch nor photograph this. In the end, the tree came down just fine and Shawn did not get electrocuted. Wheww... He did get a bit of poison ivy!!

We have decided that we love, did I say, LOVE good home grown food. We have wanted a garden for years but our slopped and shaded lot did not allow for it. Until now!! We are turning this corner of our lot into our very own garden. We are all very excited. Shea and I are already planning for next Spring.

Our friends, Brett and Brenda, had torn out their flower beds and were getting rid of the timbers. Perfect, we needed them! Shawn is building me a raised garden. Here is where it starts...

As with every thing else we've done to this place, digging is required. Can't get a flat spot here for anything. Thinking....

Digging!

No project would be complete with out the use of power tools. Shawn claimed that there were still big tough roots in the area he was digging. Hence, the use of a chain saw. Play time???

We now have the base and first row completed. It is looking lovely and I'm getting more excited. I want to order the seeds now!

Shawn is doing an awesome job on this, as always! I will get out there tomorrow and take pictures, he completed it on Sunday. It has a really nice finish piece on it. We now must till up the dirt, get a lot of top soil and maybe some poo to mix in with it. We know a few farmers who may be willing to help us out.
Now my mind starts to wonder... The possibilities... Tomato's, carrots, cucumbers, onions, strawberries, cantaloupe, lettuce, corn... I could go on and on. Good thing my friend Jen learned to can recently!! First, we must enjoy fall.
