At least they aren't real!

Friday at lunch time we found ourselves back at the London Library. Through out the summer they hold a Friday concert series. This time it was the world-known Arnett Howard. He usually puts on a great show that the kids love. I think most of the kids in our neighborhood went. We had box lunches provided by Madison Living and they were good! Mary Jo had picked out a nice spot in the shade for us to sit in. She too is pregnant and knows how much we like the shade. The kids were all given plastic Saxophone's to "learn" how to play. Can you imagine if all those kids at real ones to learn on? Oh my! They all loved their new toys and played along with the music. After Jodi and I took a large group of kids to the bathroom, that is an experience! Shea and I went up to the children's room and checked on the caterpillars. They had gotten so big in two days! They are really eating the food up that is in the containers. Of course, my camera was outside on the blanket, sorry no pictures of the caterpillars progress. After the concert Shea went home with Christy and they swam in the neighbors pool. I spent almost 2 hours in Sherwin-Williams. I had to pick up paint for each of the kids' rooms. Shea's was easy, she picked two pink colors from their color pallet. A light pink and a dark pink. For boy-boy's room I had to color-match the red in his theme. I took in the crib bumper but their machine couldn't read the fabric, the gentleman had to match it from scratch and that took almost an hour. The other color in that room will be a light tan. I'm anxious to see those on the wall. Since it was storming out this afternoon (Saturday), Shawn got started painting the pinks in Shea's room. It's looking good so far. I've been online researching horse borders. It's harder to pick that compared to the paint! I hope that you are all enjoying your weekend!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Wednesday was an exciting day for Shea. We went to the London Public Library for a special summer story time. Mary Anne (the director of the children's program) had ordered Caterpillar. They read books about bugs and did a song where they used streamers in each hand to represent that they were flying like a butterfly. Then it was time for the fun part! The kids each got to take a small container, put food in it and smash it down and then add the caterpillar. Which at that time was the size of a fingernail. Shea did two of these and just thought it was "too cool". Over the next three weeks we get to go back to the library and observe the progress of the caterpillar. Shea is very excited about this process.

Wednesday evening we helped Shawn start framing an area on the shed where we are going to put the new window in. For those who don't know, our shed was in serious need of repair! It was sinking in the ground, the osb was rotten in lots of spots, it needs a new roof, new doors...you get the point! Since the size of our shed is now not something the lake would let a home-owner build we opted to not tear it down. You don't need a permit to "fix" an existing structure. The loop whole works well for this type of thing. Shawn has jacked it up and put supportive structures underneath the shed, reinforced the existing floor and replaced all the OSB on the outside of the building. Shea and I liked helping to hold that in place while Shawn nailed it down. We decided to move the window from one side to another. SOMEONE, we can't find out who, called the lake office and said we were building a big shed on the property line. We received a bright orange stop work order. I spent a couple of days explaining to the lake mgr and the building code enforcer that the shed was built originally in the early 1990's AND we own part of the woods. I finally got that accomplished and we're back to work. They shouldn't mess with a pregnant lady!!

It's Monday!

Today is the first Monday of Summer, yea! Our weather here the last couple of days has been cooler than earlier in the month so it doesn't fully feel like summer yet. But, I'm sure that will change soon. Over the weekend we went back to New Madison. Shawn helped his father start installing siding on this out building he is putting up. I helped my Aunt Linda and Uncle Mark clean at my grandparents house. We also had a nice time visiting with our family that resides there. For those of you who may not know, my grandfather (Joe) who is 86 has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. He had his first chemo treatment last week and handled it very well. I made a strawberry pie and took it to him, he loved it!

This morning our friends, the Thompson's, had to take their Black Lab, Kody, into the vet. Kody has fallen ill this weekend. It looks hopeful that she will recover but has to be on medicine for a while. Kristen dropped the boys off here for them to play with Shea. They have had so much fun today. I've been able to accomplish a lot around the house with Shea being entertained by Noah. The kids had a great time playing on the swing set. Isn't Eli just cracking you up with that great big smile as he hangs from the monkey bars??!! Hopefully you are all enjoying this beautiful Monday. Have a great summer!

My First Treasure

It finally happened and I have entered the blogging world. What better way is there for those who live near and far to keep up with all the happenings at the Huntington household?! You may be wondering why I chose the title of simple treasures? Well, it's the simple things in life that matter the most. Family, friends, good food, good times, ice cream and chocolate!!

My first treasure to blog about is Shea! She wanted me to call my blog Shea but I informed her that her soon-to-be baby bother doesn't have a name yet so we can't do that. She asked if the blog would be all about her- how could I say no?!! Thus, my first blog must be about my Shea bug. She has finally come to terms with the fact that she is going to have a brother and now loves the idea. She just wants him old enough to play with her-right now! A couple of weeks ago (before the heat wave hit) I took her to the Columbus Zoo. What a good time we had. She just loves feeding the birds, as you can see. Also, for the first time, she rode the "horse ride" by herself. She was extremely proud of herself, as I was of her too. Her Dad and I are always proud of her. Enough of my ramblings for this morning. We have to see what good things we'll get into this afternoon.
