We woke up our first morning in Hawaii to this view from our room. We stayed on the Windward side of the island, close to the town of Kaneohe. We were told by the owners of our place of stay that the mountains we were looking at is where Jurassic Park was filmed. You can go over there and ride 4-wheelers through the area it was filmed. They looked pretty from our view.
At high tide time, the water would come under our porch. We saw that mostly at night which made it hard to get a picture of it.
We took off to go to the other side of the island to climb Diamond Head. Check out a view as we drove through the mountains. It makes it hard to drive when you have spectacular views every where you look!
We arrived at the park and were glad we had gotten there so early, we found a parking spot right by the entrance to where we needed to start our climb. This is when we observed the signs of needing the proper attire, footwear, beverages and clothes. Hum... We had none of them. We had both worn flip-flops. We did had a bottle of water and sunscreen!
Here is a view from along the way! See how it is bowl shaped? I was told along the climb from a resident that during the recent Tsunami warning the bowl area was jam-packed with equipment and personnel. I guess it was a good place to ride out a wave!
This is the point which I said, "I'll wait for you here". They called it the winch look out. I was high enough! Shawn went on to the top.
He took a lot of good pictures and here are a few.
You can see so much from the top of Diamond Head. I have plenty more pictures, I'll share them but I have so many to get on here that I picked a few of the best for now.
Then we headed on to Hanauma Bay. It is now a nature preserve but hundreds of years ago it is where the Hawaiian Royalty would go to sun bath and snorkel. It was a beautiful place. Shawn went snorkeling and loved it!!! You can see the coral as you are walking to the beach (you walk down a big "hill").
See the coral?
Beautiful beach.
Shawn off to snorkel.
It's even beautiful as we walk away...
I have a few more pictures to share and I will do so soon!
